Risk Factors:
Smoking has a number of risk factors associated with it;
- Twice as likely to have a heart attack than non-smokers
- Risk to heart health
- Increased risk of coronary heart disease
- Increased risk of stroke
- Increased risk of a variety of cancers
- Damage to lining of arteries
- Carbon monoxide reduces oxygen levels in the blood
- Increased risk of blood clots
Second-hand smoke exposure:
- Can cause heart disease in non-smokers

Tips and advice for stopping smoking:
- Keep busy to take your mind off the fact that you have stopped
- Seek help from your nurse or GP as soon as you decide to for help and support
- Try to instil a routine where you can start to reduce your daily cigarette intake
- Seek support from family and friends
- Seek external support groups if appropriate
