Contracts

Consultants employed by the University of Cambridge are issued with standard clinical contracts along with an honorary clinical consultant contract.  From 1 October 2019, consultants receive joint (co-terminous) employment contracts which state:

This is an integrated appointment between the University and [relevant NHS Trust] (“NHS Trust”). You will therefore also be issued with an Honorary Clinical Consultant Contract by the NHS Trust. You should be aware that if your contract with the NHS Trust is terminated your employment with the University will be terminated, and vice versa.

Funding

Consultant posts are funded by various different funding sources including grants, external funds, University central funds (UEF), departmental funds, NHS, chest funds, endowments and charitable donations.
