Probation
Probation is a formal arrangement at the start of employment whereby new members of staff have the opportunity to confirm their suitability for the role. In order for the probationary period to be used effectively, the new member of staff must be made aware of the standards against which their performance will be assessed and the duties and responsibilities attached to the appointment as indicated in the further particulars for the position.
Probation is part of the local induction arrangements, managed by the host Department or Unit.
The length of probationary period for Research Staff is:
Period of appointment | Probationary period |
3 months or less | None |
More than 3 months but less than 1 year | 3 months |
1 year or more | 6 months |
Should you have any questions regarding probation, speak with your Line Manager or contact the Clinical School HR Team.
